Primary Schools Quiz 2020

Ballinamere come first for Seniors and Geashill come first for Juniors in Schools Quiz 2020

Tullamore Credit Union Ltd’s annual Primary School Quiz took place in the Tullamore Court Hotel on Wednesday 12th February.  18 local schools sent over 150 primary school students into battle, in what has become one of the most hotly contested competitions on the local school calendar.

Tullamore Credit Union Ltd Chairperson Fra Mollen opened proceedings by welcoming the huge crowd. Parents, teachers and classmates came out in their droves to support their teams. He observed that the children represented the future of the credit union, stating that they are our future members and directors. To that end, the children who participated were each given a voucher for €5 to lodge to a new or existing Credit Union account, in the hopes it would encourage them to start a lifetime of sensible saving.

Nicola Keating Marketing officer also thanked the teachers and parents for their great support every year by helping the children to prepare for the quiz.

Quizmaster Ger Scully had set 60 brain-teasing questions that had many of the adults present, scratching their heads, but not the students!  Ray Spain was adjudicator for the night and Noel McManamly, Barry Byrne and Damien McIntyre from Tullamore Credit Union assisted with correcting the answer sheets.  The standard of general knowledge was excellent as the final scores showed. The competition was a dual one with students from 3rd & 4th class competing in the Junior competition while 5th and 6th class students answered an extra 2 rounds to compete for the Senior Competition. Both competitions saw the requirement for a tie-breaker session to decide on 3rd and 4th place, indicating how closely contested this competition was.

MSDM Manager Caroline Collins concluded proceedings by announcing the winners as
