Tullamore Credit Union Ltd’s annual Primary School Quiz took place in the Tullamore Court Hotel on Tuesday 6th February. 20 local schools sent 187 primary school students into battle, in what has become one of the most hotly contested competitions on the local school calendar.
Tullamore Credit Union Ltd Chairperson Patrick Doheny opened proceedings by welcoming the huge crowd. Parents, teachers and classmates came out in their droves to support their teams. He observed that the children represented the future of the credit union, stating that they are our future members and directors. To that end, the children who participated were each given a voucher for €5 to lodge to a new or existing Credit Union account, in the hopes it would encourage them to start a lifetime of sensible saving.
Quizmaster Brian Mc Sweeney had set 60 brain-teasing questions that had many of the adults present, scratching their heads, but not the students! The standard of general knowledge was excellent as the final scores showed.
The competition was a dual one with students from 3rd & 4th class competing in the Junior competition while 5th and 6th class students answered an extra 2 rounds to compete for the Senior Competition. Both competitions saw the requirement for a tie-breaker session to decide on 3rd and 4th place, indicating how closely contested this competition was.
The winners were:
3rd Scoil Eoin Phóil
The first prize was a plaque and donation to the school, and a plaque and €70 voucher for each team member. Second prize was a €60 voucher. Third prize was a €40 voucher for each team member and fourth prize was a €25 voucher for each team member.
The four winning senior teams will represent Tullamore Credit Union Ltd in the C.U.D.A National Final in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown on Saturday 3rd March at 11a.m.
Dennis Daly, CEO Tullamore Credit Union Ltd closed the evening with a special word of thanks and appreciation to Brian Mc Sweeney, who has acted as Quiz Master for over 25 years.
